Certified ToxicFree Seal
Chae Products are Certified Toxic Free

All Chaé® Organics products carry the "Certified ToxicFree Product" seal - an indication the products have been reviewed by an independent third party and confirmed to be free from carcinogenic, neurotoxic, hormone disruptors or any other harmful synthetic ingredient. Absent an industry-wide standard for clean, safe natural/organic personal and skin care products, this seal is an assurance to Chaé consumers that products are formulated from clean, toxic free organic and/or wild crafted ingredients. It is an assurance the certified products are safe for all family members including women of child bearing age, nursing mothers, infants and small children. This symbol is also used to indicate the safety of topical grooming and related product formulations for companion animals, equine and / or wildlife. USDA Organics Certified Seal

USDA Organic Certification - There is no specific standard applicable to non-food products in the USA. After years of uncertainties, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a memorandum on August 23, 2005, in order "to clarify the NOP's position" with respect to "products that meet the NOP program standards for organic products based on content, irrespective of the end use of the product".

Three different types of labels and claims may be used:

  • "100 percent organic" for products containing 100% organically produced ingredients
  • "organic", where the product contains at least 95% organic ingredients
  • "made with organic ingredients", where the product contains less than 95% organic ingredients, but in that case it is not possible to use the USDA Organic label.

The National Organic Program (NOP), has been developed for agricultural products. Its applicability to non-food products is very limited. This led some companies to submit their products to other standards bodies and to get a certification from EcoCert for instance. Of course, in such a case, the USDA Organic logo cannot be used.

NASAA - Australia's Certified Seal

AUSTRALIA - The National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA) is the leading organic certifier. So far, NASAA's standards are only applicable to food products. In response to the growing number of cosmetics, health and beauty products claiming 'organic' or 'natural' status, NASAA developed a draft series of Health and Beauty Care Standards.

UNITED KINGDOM - The Soil Association Health and Beauty Care Standard was launched in 2001 and the Soil Association also proposes certification services through the Soil Association Certification Limited.

Germany's BDIH Certified Seal
Germany's BDIH Certified Seal

GERMANY - BDIH was the first, in 1986, to launch a certification for natural cosmetics. At that time, the organic trend was still insignificant in the cosmetic segment and BDIH did not specifically address this aspect through certification.

In order to be certified, cosmetic products must comply with a list of general principles and are also prohibited to contain certain substances such as: organic-synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, ethoxylised raw materials, silicones, paraffin and other petroleum products.

EcoCert Certified Seal
France's EcoCert Certified Seal

FRANCE - The main certifier is EcoCert, which started to control cosmetic products in 2003 and now has an entire department to certify these products.
EcoCert has created its own standard for both natural and organic cosmetics:

  • "Ecocert ECO": 95% of total ingredients have a natural origin, 5% of total ingredients are certified organic and 50% of total vegetal ingredients are certified organic.
  • "Ecocert BIO": 95% of total ingredients have a natural origin, 10% of total ingredients are certified organic and 95% of total vegetal ingredients are certified organic.

To promote natural and organic products in France, some companies have formed a trade association and signed the "Charte Cosmébio", which recalls the main principles of the EcoCert standard, and allows them to label their products with another specific logo - below.

However, while the EcoCert logo can only be applied on a duly certified product, the Cosmébio logo may also be used on a product which is not certified, provided that 60% of the company's products have obtained the EcoCert labeling.

AIAB Certified Seal
Italy's AIAB Certified Seal

ITALY - The Italian Organic Farming Association (AIAB) and the Institute for the Ethic Certification (ICEA) together with a group of manufacturers, have developed guidelines for natural and organic cosmetics.
Certification and control procedures have to be carried out by an external independent certification body. Once certified, products can claim to be "AIAB Organic, environmental friendly beauty products" (i.e. Bio Eco cosmesi AIAB), and be labeled with the AIAB logo.
For additional information, visit the links associated with each certifying body in the information above.
